11 Years Ago, Before “Digital Transformation” Became a Buzzword
Sometimes, an old screenshot tells a much bigger story.
One of our engineers recently sent me an image from AWS showing a simple entry:

It immediately took me back to one of the projects that helped shape the way we approach cloud technology at Kanj Technologies.
In 2015, we migrated a client from an on-premises Citrix virtual environment into AWS, enabling the business to operate entirely from the cloud.
Moving servers was only one part of the project. The greater value was the flexibility it created for the organisation.
The client was subsequently able to move its operations to another country without rebuilding its IT environment. Its people could continue accessing the systems they needed while the business maintained its security, governance and compliance requirements.
And our work with emerging cloud technology did not end there.
When Microsoft introduced Windows Virtual Desktop in 2019, we were again among the early adopters. Within months of its launch, we were already deploying the platform in production environments for clients.
Christiaan Brinkhoff’s articles about Windows Virtual Desktop were particularly helpful during that implementation. It was a pleasure to finally meet Christiaan in Dubai last year and another reminder of the value that a knowledgeable and generous technology community can provide.
Windows Virtual Desktop has since become Azure Virtual Desktop. AWS Simple AD, the service shown in that original 2015 screenshot, is now moving into maintenance.
Technology changes. The mindset behind using it well should not.

Cloud, cyber security, data and artificial intelligence today.
For me, that is what digital transformation has always meant. It is not simply adopting the latest platform or following the latest technology trend. It is about using technology early, thoughtfully and strategically to give businesses capabilities they did not have before.
That is a mindset I am proud to continue developing at Kanj Technologies.
